FIX: Error Msg: "STOP: 0x0000007E" After Installing XP SP3 On AMD Platform

Summary
After installing Windows XP Service Pack 3, the computer goes into a continuous reboot loop. The system displays a stop error on every restart.
Symptom
After installing XP SP3 and rebooting, the system may go into a reboot loop. In order to see the stop error, you must boot using the F8 key and choose the option "Disable automatic restart on a serious error". After this the computer blue screens with the following error:
The sub codes above (in the parentheses) may be different.
Cause
The file INTELPPM.SYS is called incorrectly by a registry setting.
Resolution
NOTE: Only perform this fix on systems with AMD processors. If your system has an Intel processor, do not use these steps.
Change the INTELPPM.SYS call in the registry
To do this, follow these steps (CAUTION!! The following steps require editing the system registry. You may want to make a backup copy of the registry before continuing - if you feel uncomfortable using these steps, please contact tech support or Microsoft):
Verify the motherboard platform is AMD. Verify that the XP SP3 patch is already installed.
Start the system in Safe Mode
Click Start, click Run, type regedit , and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Intelppm
In the right pane, right-click the Start entry, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 4 , and then click OK. If it does not read: 00000004 then edit it so that it does.
(A value of 00000004 Disables the Service from startup.)
If the service value does not exist at all, that is good too.
The service should either be non-existent or disabled for non-Intel processors.
