Summary

Windows Security Center notifies you that Kaspersky Lab product is on but reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported

Symptom

Windows Security Center notifies you that Kaspersky Lab product is on but reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported

Resolution

On a PC running Windows Vista SP1 with a Kaspersky Lab product installed and running the following message from the Windows Security Center may be displayed:

"Kaspersky Anti-Virus / Kaspersky Internet Security is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the program's automatic updating feature, or contact the program manufacturer for an updated version."

At the same time your Kaspersky Lab product is working normally. In order to check it, open Kaspersky Anti-Virus / Kaspersky Internet Security and make sure that the Your computer is protected banner is displayed in the upper part of the main window.

The problem can be resolved by one of the following solutions:

  1. Update the Windows Vista operating system to Service Pack 2 (SP2).
    or
  2. Use the utility WSCGracePeriodFix.zip from Microsoft:
  • Download the archive with the utility
  • Unpack the archive by using any archiver, for example WinZip
  • Launch WSCGracePeriodFix32 or WSCGracePeriodFix64 depending on the operating system bit count. In order to determine the operating system bit count, click Start - Control Panel - System (the System type item).
