There are a number of nonprofit organizations that can make good use of your used computers by passing them along to people or groups in need.
eBay Giving Works offers another way to make a charitable contribution by selling your used computers, cell phones and consumer electronics. Through eBay Giving Works, when you list an item on eBay, you can donate part or all of the final sale price to the nonprofit of your choice. Your listing will be marked with special features and information about your donation commitment, giving buyers additional confidence and incentive to purchase.
Goodwill Goodwill Goodwill Industries agencies refurbish, recycle or resell computer donations to earn money for job training and career programs that benefit over 600,000 people each year.
The National Cristina Foundation directs donations of used computer equipment to organizations throughout the U.S. These groups train people with disabilities, students at risk and economically disadvantaged persons to lead more independent and productive lives.
StRUT StRUT The Students Recycling Used Technology (StRUT) program gives schools reusable equipment that students must evaluate, sort, repair and refurbish so it can be distributed to and used by schools in need. By putting your computers, cell phones and consumer electronics into the hands of a reputable recycler, potentially hazardous materials can be disposed of safely and reusable materials can be salvaged.
BAN Basel Action Network (BAN) maintains the E-Stewards Initiative (the Electronics Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship) and a list of recyclers that agree to maintain the most rigorous social and environmental criteria to recycle your computer or electronic waste.
Earth 911 Earth 911 – A national environmental information network providing access to community recycling, donation and disposal options for computers, electronics and cell phones. By entering your ZIP code on the site you can find your nearest electronics recycling event/location.
EPA EPA eCycling - EPA is working to educate consumers and others on why it is important to reuse and recycle electronics and what the options are for safe reuse and recycling of these products. State and local governments, manufacturers, and retailers, who are already aware of the pressing need to better manage these materials, are providing more opportunities to recycle and reuse this equipment.

SVTC Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition (SVTC) – This grassroots coalition engages in research and advocacy to help find solutions to e-waste concerns. SVTC helped found, and works with, the Computer Take Back Campaign. The Computer Take Back Campaign promotes corporate accountability for electronic waste and publishes a list of companies that provide responsible recycling programs for computers and electronics.
